Benin African Tapestry
The Benin African Tapestry was a ceremonial and decorative textile from the historical Kingdom of Benin (present-day Nigeria). In the past, these traditional tapestries, or appliqués, were crafted by men and adorned the homes of chiefs with imported European trade cloth. They often depicted significant symbols and figures that represented the kingdom's rich history and power. The hand-embroidered design features a stunning peacock as the centerpiece, surrounded by birds, butterflies, and dragonflies. The attention to detail and skill in craftsmanship is truly remarkable and demonstrates the amount of time and effort put into creating this masterpiece.
The condition is generally good with all the embroidery intact, there are some areas of staining when you look close to the artwork.
